A niche is a clearly defined subset of the market — a specific audience, problem, or use case — that a business chooses to serve with focus instead of chasing everyone. Niche marketing is the strategy of depth over breadth.
Focusing on a niche creates three compounding advantages: your message resonates (you speak exactly to that audience's problem), you face less competition (big players optimize for the mass market), and you become the obvious authority in that space.
The risk is the opposite extreme: a niche too small to sustain revenue. The skill is finding the smallest segment large enough to be profitable — the classic advice is to niche down until it hurts, then widen from there.
In practice: a generalist SEO agency vs an SEO agency for legal practices; a generic CRM vs a CRM for agencies. Allable's market research helps validate that a niche has enough demand to build on.
Examples:
- An agency niche: "SEO for dental clinics" beats "SEO agency" for relevance, authority, and price premium.
- A software niche: a vertical CRM for agencies outperforms a horizontal CRM in that segment's benchmarks.
